Local Area Guide

Wetherby is an attractive market town, conveniently situated close to the A1M on the banks of the river Wharfe approximately 12 miles from Leeds, 12 miles from York and 8 miles from Harrogate.

One of the reasons the area is so popular is its’ excellent transport links being a short drive from the A1(M). There are also regular direct bus services to Wakefield, York, Leeds, Knaresborough, Harrogate, Otley and Tadcaster. The railway station at Kirk Hammerton (about 20 minutes drive) offers a regular service to Leeds and York, which then provide onward rail connections across the country including to London in just over two hours. Leeds Bradford International Airport is also close by.

The surrounding area includes some pretty villages many with great amenities. Nearby Boston Spais a predominantly stone built village with many Georgian properties, situated some 1 1/2 miles east of the A1 on the southern bank of the River Wharfe. The village has its own good selection of shops, schools and facilities.

Eating Out and Leisure

Wetherby has plenty to offer including an ever expanding range of shops including numerous independents, a small shopping centre, supermarkets including Morrisons, Aldi and Marks and Spencer Simply Food, a weekly market and a monthly farmers' market on the second Saturday morning of each month.  A selection of pubs, coffee shops for example Filmore and Union and a variety of restaurants provide locals and visitors plenty of choice for places to eat and drink.

Guide to Schools

Wetherby and the surrounding villages offer some exceptional primary schools including Crossley Street and St Josephs Catholic school Wetherby and Primrose Lane Boston Spa (all outstanding Ofsted status) making this a sensible choice for families. Secondary schools In Harrogate are highly sought after including St Aidans, St John Fisher, Harrogate Grammar, again all outstanding.  In addition there are excellent independent schools on offer in the area including, Leeds Grammar, and Queen Ethelburgas.
